Good evening! I've spent several hours brainstorming and trying ways to properly install the dash carrier (instrument panel) back into my 69 firebird. There are 4 slots in the dash pad that line up with the top 4 screw holes in the (original) instrument carrier, yet no holes in the sheet metal behind the pad. My guess is there are supposed to be a threaded gromit that installs in the slots, but after hours of searching the net, I am unable to see if this is true or not and/or locate the part. The shop manual is lacking in detail to answer the question and I've checked the FAQs/posts on this site. The prior owner had it off-center and unstably screwed into the pad itself (which appears quite wrong).

If you have a 69 or are aware of the answer, could you help solve this frustration? How is this correctly attached to the dash pad?

You need part number A259W Dash pad nylon attaching inserts out of Ames GTO catalog Page 49. They $1.00 ea

Bob, those grommets (nylon inserts) press into the dash pad. Four of the same grommets are needed for the bottom of the dash as well.

Tom, I ordered 8 today because they were cheap and hard for me to find (just in case I broke one etc..). Ironic that I actually needed that many.
