I am redoing a 69 ohc 1bbl with my son and daughter. This will be their first car. I want the best brakes that I can reasonably $$$ put on. Have read about conversion kits and brake in a box kits. I am not sure which way to go and I am lookining for advice. The car is a #'s matching but I will save the original parts for if I ever want to restore to original. Car currently has manual drums all around.
Spend $700.00 to upgrade to power front disks using a kit. If you're using larger than stock wheels use larger than stock front rotors.
I upgraded without a kit and ended up using an adjustable proportioning valve to stop the rears from locking up. I used 1970 Grand Prix spindles, calipers, booster, master cylinder, and combination valve. Most of that was used as cores for rebuilt stuff at the auto parts store. Buy a kit it would be a lot less trouble.
I've got slotted rotors and pads from Stainless Steel Brakes, up front. I've got aluminum drums from a late '70's or '80's GM intermediate in the rear and a Praise Dyno Brakes brake in a box kit on the rears. It stops very well now that I've got the adjustable proportioning valve. Some of the guys on this site are using 4 disks.
