Hey guys i was talking to this guy that I bought my engine off of and right after he told me that he had the block decked. I really dont know what that means but because of that i can not get the codes that are right next to the water pump.

It means that the top of the block was milled. The area were the heads sit is milled down to TRUE up the surface and also to increase compression.

Even decking the block should not have obliterated the block code from the front of the block.

I think that would only apply to chevy blocks maybe others that has a pad that is even with the top of the block. Pontiac codes and VIN would be on front passenger side. There have been many of valuable matching number chevys ruined this way!
