Please tell me how I can tell if my 68's glass is tinted or clear. It may sound like a silly question but my garage too dark. Does all tinted glass have "Soft Ray" marking? It's maked PPG Safety Flo Lite AS-2 26 117 Solid Tempered M30.8 Thank you,.... Penny
i'm sure someone will tell me if i'm wrong, but i think the only factory tinted glass was the top of the windshield on A/C cars. it's tinted down about 4", and then fades. if you have A/C, you should have this on the windshield. other than that, i know of no factory tinting.
A friend that restores cars told me before that A/C cars came with tinted glass, he pointed it out to me. The tinted glass is hardly noticable, but it is tinted. It's easy to see if you compare the two side by side. Pete
Soft ray is tinted. (Tinted was standard equipment on a/c cars. Clear was standard equipment w/o air; however, tinted was an option on cars w/o ac. The thing is that people didn't order tinted glass. I know it sounds hard to belive but cars were expensive in those days, and people didn't order useless things.
The tint on the top of the windsheild is called shaded. 3 types of W/S in the coupe: W688C (clear), W688T (tinted--same tint as the tempered glass), and W688S (shade--tinted as the tempered, and blue band on top portion). Same for the rags, but I don't know their part numbers.
