I just converted to a Muncie 4-speed on my '67 bird; I installed a Hurst shifter that came with a white shift ball which doesnt look right. Was the shift ball black out of the factory? I've seen both in pictures; I want it to look factory correct. Also, how can I tell which thread ball I need. Thanks.
The original shifter knob in my 67 is black with white letters. The lower 1/3 is chrome. This chrome "nut" is used to lock it in place. 5/16 thread. Shift knob itself is smaller in diameter than the Hurst ball.
I believe sometime in 68 Pontiac switched over to Hurst shifters which used 3/8 thread.
