All of the information about rally gauge conversion in the FAQ area is about the '67-'68 cars. Has anyone done the switch from the standard gauge w/ idiot lights to the rally guage on a '69?
I bought a rally gauge on Ebay. I have now bought an uncut dash, rally gauge, and an original AM radio that I had converted to digital AM/FM. I'm hoping I can change out everything in one fell swoop.
Any help on the gauge conversion would be really appreciated.
Alright, I've been educated...here is what to do for a '69 when you want to convert from an idiot light guage to a rally guage:
Remove the cluster from the dash. After removing the electrical connector from the old cluster, look at it. There are numbers 1-6 on the top and numbers 7-12 on the bottom. Switch number 5(Tan wire) with number 7(Brown wire). To remove a wire, go from the front(the side that plugs into the cluster) and insert a small screwdriver under the pin to release the tab that holds it. Be sure to expand the tab out before replacing it into the new location.
You will also have to replace the oil and temperature sending units. These parts can be bought; one place that has them is Performance Years: part numbers GME46 for water temp. and GME43 for oil pressure sender. Total price for the 2 sending units is 33 bucks.
