I have recently restored my 1968 Firebird 400 convert. I bought and repaired the car in 1978. I was sales manager for a large wrecking yard from 1973 through 2004 so I'm very familiar with the inner workings of the doors having sold hundreds and also installed several GM window regulators and door glasses.
My wife bought me a 1968 Body By Fisher reapir manual which describes the door glass adjustment in detail. I used the manual a lot as I installed the interior and windows after the body work.
THE PROBLEM: I cannot get the LH door glass to adjust properly to save my life. I have gotten all other glass in the car to adjust including the RH door glass. The LH glass is out at the top and flops around. I have had the glass and regulator out a number of times. The regulator, all rollers and the regulator are in great condition. The door shell does not appear to be damaged or distorted in any way.
If you've replaced a door glass, you know there is a roller assembly at the front and rear of the glass. The roller must be bolted on the INSIDE of the glass. You can actually bolt it on either side of the glass and that is what someone had done with the front roller when replacing the glass at some time or another.
I received great help and advise from Fbody69 Jim, He sent me a detailed door part break down. I may not have figured this out otherwise. Thanks very much, Jim
