Perhaps this topic should have its own forum.

Here is the background (below) explaining the registry by John Schuh ramair@comcast.net . I encourage you to also send a hardcopy to John. Email him for his address. Geoff Martin is helping John by adding an online data entry form to this site. This is a large task for John and Geoff. I encourage you to enter your name on the prior thread(entitled Registry) on this forum in the event that you can help them with registry tasks.

Here is Geoff's email Geoff@FirstGenFirebird.org

If you have any trouble with the form you can email Geoff. It doesn't matter if you still own the car or whether it is numbers matching or not. All you need to get started is the cowl tag and VIN. PHS documentation (billing history)is also a good source.
................................
email from John Schuh circa 1999......

Does a registry exist for first generation firebirds?

Quote"

...Yes.
"GENERATION-1" ...The First Generation Firebird Registry

A Nonprofit Organization established in 1991 for the Firebird Enthusiast
('67-'69).
We have been collecting information on the 67-69 Firebird in order to decipher
Factory/Dealer Documentation (Broadcast Sheets, Billing History Sheets, Trim
Tags) in addition to maintaining a Database of all 'surviving' Firebird's in
order to learn more about these cars. There is no charge to join the
Registry nor is there any for asking questions. We do not believe in selling
information that belongs to the Pontiac Enthusiast Community; by joining the
Registry you are helping to build an Organization that is built by the owners
and for the owners of the First Generation of the Firebird !

What we need:
* VIN (personal info is not published; used only for Research)
* Firewall Trim Tag Data
* List of Original Equip/Options on car
* Codes from any Factory/Dealer Documents...
(Broadcast Sheet, Billing History, Window Sticker, Warranty Plate,etc)

What we provide:
* FREE decoding of factory/dealer documentation
* On-Line Registry/Web Site of Technical Data
* Periodic Updates from the Registry
* Restoration advice, tips, recommendations

Some of the research we're involved with:
* '67-'69 Ram Air cars
* Dealer/Zone Code research
* '69 Trans Am
* '67-'69 Body & Chassis Broadcast Sheet Codes
* Production Variations/Part Variations
* Part Number Data Base
* Production Totals
* Trim Tag Decoding

We look forward to adding your Firebird to our Registry !! " Unquote -i.e. end of email from John.

"Our Registry"?

I thought John was the sole proprietor of this registry.

Did not know he incorporated partnership.

For those reading this thread for the first time for clarity purposes I'll condense the first post above.

To to all interested in a registry for all 1967, 1968, 1969 Firebird's and Trans-ams. This thread is intended to provide a link to the online data entry form for that registry. The registry is much more than a data entry form.

Please see the link above and the description above by John. The more interest and help he receives the better and quicker the results will be.

Darron,

I think Geoff is working on programming that feature (updates). I believe he said it may be done soon. Send him an email if you would like him to know in case he is not reading this regularly. Make sure you have Firebird in the subject line due to spam filters.

comments from John on Firebird List

owner's.
> All cars are welcome... restored, modified, parts-cars or even a VIN from
a car you once owned (or junked). Condition is not important as this is not
intended to be simply a collection of owner photo's. Also, for this data to
be of any use, we need more than... "I have a red '68 Firebird with a 4spd".
This is why we specify the need for a VIN, Trim Tag codes and any
factory/dealer documentation you may have along with a description of the
car.
>
> In addition to the Registry Database, there are several research projects
that use this information to provide more detail on everthing relating to
the 67-69 Firebirds. Listed below are the major indexes for the Registry:
>
> 1) Identification Numbers (VIN, Body Unit, Engine unit, etc)
> 2) Part Identification (photos, part numbers, casting numbers)
> NOTE: This area could be broken down according to the PMD
> Part Group System (0.000 -thru- 15.000) or according to TCF
> (Trim, Chassis, Final w/sub-groups within each)
> 3) Trim Tag Decoding
> 4) Broadcast Copy & Billing History Decoding (documentation)
> 5) Options (photos, Sales Codes, usage, variations, etc)
> 6) Date Coding
> 7) Production Build Procedures (Assembly Manual)
> 8) Production Identification Marks
> 9) Production Build Variations, Mid-year Changes
> 10) Production Totals
> 11) Restoration Techniques (paint, body, detailing)
> 12) Mechanical Reference Index (drivetrain rebuild techniques)
> 13) Research Index (on-going research of Firebird variations)
> 13) Owner Registry (photos, vehicle profile index, etc)....
>
> The subject of a 67-69 Firebird Restoration/Reference Guide has been
brought up before on this List. Unfortunately, despite the offers from
several people to help out, the project never took off. The first thing we
need are people interested in helping out. Once we have a dedicated group,
then we establish the plan and responsibilities. All of us are busy and have
other lives besides our cars. To make this a success, we'll need people who
have experience with various computer software and web-page design. We'll
also need people with organization skills to collect and arrange
information, photos, references, etc.
>
> I can put together a detailed, preliminary plan for the group to review
and critique. From there, we start collecting the info and putting it into
the formats required for a web-site. Many thanks to Geoff for this List and
his help with formatting/uploading the Registry Forms. He is also very
organized and has several suggestions as to how this information could be
presented.
>

offers and suggestions we get over the next week or so.

Yes, the update feature is top on my list and should be relatively easy for me. With that said, my day job is taking 6 out of 7 days and I am traveling the next four weeks. I would love to say I will have this done in next week but have to give worse case of 30 days.

To answer the question recently posed on the firebird list: where to send the scanned broadcast
sheets?

You can send them (along with other Documents, billing histories, invoices,
etc) to John Schuh to be put in the registry (registry coordinator) at
ramair@comcast.net

There is also an online registry data entry link in the last link below.

For more information here are topics related to but not replacing the need
to send the data into the registry

Put what I believe finishing touches on the Update Doc feature. You can not update the documents you have already entered and can add documents you missed.

Amazing what you can get done stuck in an airport for 5 hours.

Stay tuned with more to come.

Well, sorta. I now train managers and coordinate/facilitate training sessions and reason so much travel. Reason I moved was to take promotion and give Florida a try.

I have moved my whole life and now get a bad itch around five years in a location. Maybe the travel will keep me in a spot longer but I doubt it.

Registry form asks for password, what password confused ? Would like to help on this project, but have no way to! A little technical help is needed, as I am not a computer genius! Tried my FGF password, did not work. I could mail the old fashioned way if needed. Thanks!

Wish there was a way to tie all databases together to eliminate issue but no way to tie into the Classifieds system.

If you have not registered a car yet, simply go to the bottom of Registry Form and complete (Skip Log in Process). You will need to enter your information plus car information.

Point your browser to: http://FirstGenFirebird.org/registry/

Does this help and answer question - Geoff

About 400 in the online database with 300 being entered in the last six months once I put the a live link on our main page.

Have been needing to do some programming to update the functionality as it really only gathers data right now with some good search capabilities on my end.

Ken - Send me private message or email with the VIN and I can check. You can also sign in to look. (For Email, put "FIREBIRD" in subject or I may never see message)

Most likely this was yet another feature trashed during the forced server changeover last April. Read Geoff's notes

I will have to get all my info together and add my 67 firebird 400 to this.

1967 firebird A.I.R. 400 or California-emissions Firebird 400 four-speed hardtop. It also came with dual factory traction bars or safe-T- track rear axle, 10 bolt posi, front power disc brakes, PS, a Muncie 4 speed, Console, Dual exhaust, dual horns, and Soft Ray Glass windshield. Red on Red car... and a hood tach, rally gauge cluster... Maybe for sale??? Its sitting in MO and I am now in CA. Anyone want to haul it my way? PM me.

1220 of them were “(WU)” 400 A.I.R. 4 barrel manual transmissions. (Engine codes in parenthesis are for cars built with AIR Injector Exhaust Control, code 616. This was an emissions reduction modification performed on the heads. They were cast with an air injection passage to reduce emissions. They were installed on Firebirds manufactured for sale in California only).

It has a 24 339 code for the dealer on it from PHS... It was from Peninsula Pontiac, 2909 Pacific Coast Highway, Torrence, CA 90505

Yes, really disappointed this feature was destroyed and when I developed these apps used this coding. Right now, way too much time to learn and convert to a modern coding to bring all of these custom scripts back to life. I am more disappointed than anyone as I spent more hours than I want to admit to create these to only watch them die. geoff

For those who've wondered what ever happened to the 67-69 Firebird Registry....

I started collecting data from owners back around 1991. The purpose (as stated earlier in this thread) was for research purposes only (contrary to what some may think). Some time after this, I met Geoff and he too was interested in the idea of a Registry. We worked together on several research projects involving how the first gen 'Birds were built, options, colors, production variations, Broadcast (Build) Sheet decoding, etc. With Geoff's computer/web skills, much of this was made available on-line. Apparently, there was some programming glitches (or...?) a few years ago and the on-line project died.

As for me, I've been out of the Firebird loop for quite a few years (like...almost 15 it seems). Life happens, Family, work, etc.
Anyhow... I'm back. Finally starting to restore a '68 Ram Air I conv. (more on this another time).

If anyone is interested, I still have all of the registry data I collected over the years. Now & then, I'd add a few more cars as I had time but for the most part, I've not been actively collecting or doing much with the data. There have been a few over the years interested in continuing with the Registry or spinning off different registries (such as 67-69 Ram Air Firebirds). I'd be more than happy to work with anyone who has the time and skill-set to help evaluate and organize this data into an on-line database. Again, I've been "off-the-grid" for the most part over the past decade or so. Not quite sure what the current status is here on FGF with regards to all that Geoff has done with the data & research we compiled way back when. If I've mis-spoken here on anything in this regards, I apologize.

I'm a detail oriented guy; Fascinated by how & why things were done and I enjoy the research. Obviously, it's not likely anyone is going to be able to put together a complete registry or database of ALL remaining 67-69 Firebirds but, we can learn a lot about what is collected that can assist those restoring their cars or, provide insight into variations, scarcities, how many were built with this or that, dates, codes, etc.

If you have an interest in this AND have the time and computer skills to take it forward, please contact me privately and I'd be glad to assist with everything I have. A lot of what I have is hard copies. Some I put into Excel. Still think it would be an interesting database to put together.

Thanks!

I was really excited to see there was a Registry, then after reading through the thread was depressed to see it is DEAD. I wish I had the skills required to take on the task, but needless to say I'm lucky to be able to turn on a smart phone. :-(
