if you spend a lot of money , do it right, or the 'value' you get for your money isnt there...if you do it for your enjoyment ,fine, but if you sell it ,dont expect the big bucks...
also I dont like the paint job style, but thats just me, my taste, and is fairly easy to redo....but costs money of course...
I have never understood the stripe thing that follows around the beak in the hood.
It always seems to mask the hood scoops.
I'll always take the 99.99% stock version any day.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I like most of it, but not really anyway.. -the wheels are not my taste, the door-handles are cool -but why not put on something era-like.. ? -maybe the 'cuda's' door handles (painted in body color.
The front is okay, cause it reminds me of the '68 GTO or the trans-am's of '69.. -they ran with 68' fronts on 69' bodies..
the paint sceme from '70 looks okay to me (Royal bobcat actually had the same front on their Firebirds 67-69)
I don't like the 'modern' dash.. -too 'fast and furious' for me..
All in all a very interesting view on a resto-mod, and very nicely done..
but one thing I absolutely hate is the ZZTOP steering-wheel... (very nice quality, I'm sure.. -But why????) Just my 2 cents.. but why???
Maybe the paint scheme would look better on a coupe..??
Too much white; bumpers, engine bay; and absolutely no detail on the body; emblems, rocker molding, etc. It's like an Earl Shibe job, paint everything not taped!
It's nicely done but I would never do it (even if I could afford it). I prefer the resto-mod that still retains more of the stock look. I wouldn't even do it if it was anything else besides some base model, low option, 2 barrel Bird. Any HO, Sprint 6, 400, etc.
1. I think the quality of the work is excellent. 2. The attention to fit and detail (even if misdirected) is very high on this car. 3. They avoided a lot of very high dollar bling items and top of the line add-ons that don't add much and thus the owner while spending a lot, probably didn't spend as much as most doing one of these. 4. The engine compartment is very cleanly laid out.
General Comments: 1. White is an easy color if you're trying to hide bodywork but a very tough color if you want to show off a car's features. White is indiscriminant in its hiding characteristics. For a solid color, it's the hardest to spray because it's harder to see it going onto the car.
2. For any custom to work, there should be a theme or consistency that makes everything (original or modified) work together. Resto-mods, Customs, Pro-street, pro-touring, whatever, don't follow Gestault theory. Simple and cheap things that work in concert are far better than outstanding or expensive modifications that don't work in concert. That's why it's hard to beat a factory look where every feature went through lots of iterations and internal reviews. 99% of things on a factory car work together from the factory and time only cements that in our heads and can even make that 99%, 100%.
3. It's better to be good, than different. A lot of people don't understand this.
Okay, what I don't like in descending order: 1. The stripe works on the tail end but not on the hood. Hence, they should've done a two tone around the belt line or something that works on an FGF. 2. The interior color and the stripe color are enough different in shade to really bother me. The interior looks to have more black and red in it where the stripe is more of a pure blue. Sometimes you can get away with this on a hardtop where the interior color and exterior color never come together and one is always exposed to different lighting from the other. On a convertible, you're better off picking a contrasting color. 3. The subframe with Mustang II control arms was a waste of money. It adds nothing to the performance of the car. For the same money, some real performance mods could've been made (i.e., ATS spindles and real a-arms). 4. The interior is too generic looking. I think a lot of cars fall apart here (even my own could be better). People just don't give enough thought to pleat patters in the seats and doors, console shapes, armrest shapes, etc... to pull a custom interior together in a way that makes the average person say "wow." I'm guessing it's because so much attention goes to the paint and drivetrain and by the time the interior is thought about, money and stamina are exahusted.
Well enough killing time on a Saturday morning. I need to get out to my car and enjoy it.
looks like a car thats not driven....450 hp, 400 engine and no filler panels? seems like it would over heat after a couple of miles... interesting interior though, dangerous maybe (the center that point towards passengers), but very interesting...
The interior looks so plain to me. Generic Auto Meter looking gauges, dash looks like the big plain piece of fiberglass that it is, generic "custom" steering wheel and the stock grill guards on the Polk Audio speakers, where is the detail? I had those speakers in my 91 Dakota a few years ago! An all original or restored original steering wheel would look better than that one any day. I do like the paint job though, but not the integrated rear bumper.
I have much larger versions of these and a couple more if anyone is interested. Just didn't want to post huge ones here. Not sure about the bandwidth issue with that.

On the '69 that Cat posted, I saw a thread on this car while it was being done. That dash is all steel. I saw the car finished at Goodguys Columbus a couple years ago. I don't think it adds much to the car. BTW, what are 12 bolt mains?
