Hello friends, it's been a long time but I have a problem I can't fix or understand with my 1868 250 car. I installed a new softseal trunk rubber seal. I was told it's normal for it to be a bit hard to clse the trunk at first, but almost a year latter, I notice although it does close better, that the top right corner, of the trunk lid stick up and water just floods the trunk when I wash the car. I have the seal installed so that the lip is facing away from the opening. And I did make sure it was tucked in as far as I could get it to go. But when the trunk corner actually sticks up enough to see it, what happened here? Any adjustments on the trunk lid?
Thanks friends, and my best to you, and yours. Mike
I also need to know if it's a big deal changing the 6
is the seal installed correctly? if it were me , I may try to see if any other manufacturer makes that same seal...it doesnt sound right..
but also, are you sure it leaks at the seal? not tail lights or bumper bolts? or UNDER the seal..I had a pin hole at the right rear corner that you couldnt see when seal was covering it...
If you can see the seal when the trunk lid is closed, two things come to mind. It's the wrong seal, or it's installed incorrectly. Do you have any pictures of the offending seal? Also the seal needs to have adhesive applied to the channel and seal upon installation.
Why change the OHC-6? That would just take another unique car off the road, and lessen it's value. But if your determined to make it a V-8 there are a few things to consider. First the frame mounts would need to be changed. If it's a manual trans, the bellhousing will need changed. Fuel and electrical lines will need changed or modified, along with a possible radiator upgrade.
There are great upgrades for the OHC-6, and John beat me to posting the link to Primatech. Think twice about it. I saved my base coupe from the dreaded V-8 swap. And I just talked with Jared (a lister), and he bought a '68 cammer to restore. So believe me, they are becoming more popular Also check this OHC site out: http://sohcsix.yuku.com/
Hey friends, I'm sorry I was so tired when I posted this. First of all, it a 1968, and not a 250 but a 350 car. I made sure the area around the trunk was solid by shining a light from inside the hood. I have the correct sealer on the seal, which again was from soffseal?? Something like that. I may have it wrong, so I'll try taking a few close and clear photos and posting them. If it was simply a leak that's one thing. But a flash flood in way to much. When I wash the car which only takes maybe thirty minutes, and I don't use high amounts of water, the trnuk has about a gallon of water inside. So, the leake must be a decent sized one. Thanks for the help. ZZZzzzzzz
