Hello, I asked this once before but dont believe I got a response. I would like to know what the correct size of a power drum brake booster is correct? ALso, is there a decent replacment master that looks good with the 68?
I do have one more question. Again, I asked this once but didn't understand the answer. On my 350 2bbl I have a small vacuum nipple in front of the carb. At this time is pluged offI got a response that is has something to do with the transmission, but did not understand what it's use is for? Or, if I should have it connected to my TH350 transmission or not? The factory transmission was a 2 speed auto.
Your local auto parts store has stock replacements for the brake booster and master cylinder unless you are doing a concourse restoration. I used these parts and I'm satisfied.
The nipple on the intake manifold in front of the carb connects to the air cleaner. The nipple on the base of the front of the carb (the throttle body) is for your distributor vaccum advance.
The transmission and brake booster both get their vaccum source from the rear of the carb. The brake booster pulls its vaccum from a relatively large diameter fitting on the back of the carb throttle body plate. The transmission gets its vaccum from a nipple on the back of the carb that is about the same size as the one on the front.
Thank you, now I understand the vaccum set up, and I was correct but without my air cleaner installed. It will be soon, but for now I'm using an aftermarket unit.
The vaccum advance for the distributor on my car is located on the left (drivers side of the dist. The hose has to run along the right side, and then bend bhind the dist connecting the the advance nipple which faces left (drivers side) which I thought was odd.
I have checked the boosters the local parts stores can get but none of them have the cad plated boosters. Also, everyone seems to have diff sizes which is why I was looking for the correct size. I will try looking at som of the web pages selling resto parts to see what they have to offer. Thanks and god day friends. Mike in Oregon
