they forcast winds up here in our part of Houston , W NW side to 95-100 mph....not really worried about the house, but trees are big and old...so, they can case damage if big limbs fall...Firebird will be garaged, other vehicles outside...
keeping my fingers crossed for no damage ,but dread the clean up...theres always lots of junk to clean up, mostly from trees,...
we`ll see, went out to lunch , lots of cars out there, every gas station looks like its early 70`s...cars in line out onto the streets... (glad I filled up yesterday!) saw a woman putting in at least 5 filled up red plastic gas containers in the rear of her SUV....not good, with the heat ,that will expand , fume out into the car.....
Be safe, hang in there, Hope Kel and all the other Halfer's fare as well through the storm, wish them the best too. We all hope it's not as bad as they make it out to possibly be by the time it reaches land...
Looks like Ike is taking a slight more east turn...we may be on the west side of the eye....not at the center of the eye ,as we were in Alicia...
we just ggot all outside furniture piled between the fence and the garage...plants in the garage with the bird... my car is left at my office in the conc. garage...my wifes car is in our neighbors garage...my son is going ut west to visit a friends rach...taking the dog...wife is baking sme 'beer bread'...and Im thawing out some tenderloins to grill tonite....bought some extra wine, beer and water yesterday....we`ll be ok, I think..plus we are "high" for Housto , at 65' abv sealevel...downtown is at 45'
my worries is about our OLD, HUGE oak trees ,that drop limbs even on a good day! hopefully none will go thru the roof...
When Alicia came thru we lost power ,but were the ONLY on our block/neighbor hood ,so it was 3 weeks before we got it back, since they fix the 'big problems' first..it wsnt bad, we had 16 extyension cords from our neighbors garage to our fridge, cooked on my camper stove in the garage...worst was having a 10 mo old baby and no a/c...
My sister is in Angleton, just inland from Lake Jackson, with her fiancé and their not quite one year old daughter. They live at the end of a mile long dirt road, I expect they will be stuck there. Big old oaks and lots of other trees all around.
They've laid in supplies and boarded up the windows. The cow and the goats are on their own.
Best wishes to all...

Bjorn and Paul's cell phones are unreachable. Not surprising, with the damage the storm inflicted on Houston. Up to 3 million businesses and homes without power, and a lot of cleanup before things are back in order. The city is without drinking water.
My sister is feeding info to us, she's not far from Houston.
Utility company says it may take a month to restore service to all customers, though they've already got a few back up in areas without too much damage.

We used to have a beach house on Crystal Beach, it made it through hurricanes Alicia (early 80's) and Hugo (early 90's). I sure it's gone now. My brother lives in Houston and said the power will be out for awhile.
Bjorn and many others are without power, as of earlier today. Bj had some tree damage, but for most part, all the HALFers faired ok...considering. Some of the HALFers have generators. Phones are all jammed up, alot of flooding in area, will update has news comes in....
we had no rain or wind until this afternoon with cool front that passed thru, Kel
Vikki, got an email from Carl about 10:30 last night, he is still without power, lost everything in the freezer, says rough trying to sleep, 85 degrees, 90% rh...... .... Paul never lost power, offered his palce to HALFers for hot meal & place to shower....Kel
Wow Kel. Thanks for the updates. I know everybody here was worried about y'all. I heard from a freind that was running races at Mid Ohio yesterday for NASA. He said the rain and wind didm't stop all day. Was blowing everything away.
Just got this email from Andy.... would you expect anything less from Bjorn... ;-)
"Talked to Bjorn yesterday afternoon late – his cell had started working (sort of). All OK with him – he had spent part of the day cleaning his pool and then sitting in it – was having a glass of wine in the backyard when he called. He has no computer access – said to tell everyone hello."
That's our Bjorn! Thanks Kel, Glad to hear little by little that everyone is checking in "ok" at this point. Good to see you pop up now and then, miss seeing you on here! Take it easy - Brett!
Thanx B/, I'll be "lurking" around more ....got thru to Carl last night, he said he is still without power. A good friend loaned me a generator, I am going to meet him 1/2 way so he can at least have a fridge, fan, lights....he said that he and Bjorn were verrry fortunate, many people on there respective streets had very large trees laying in living rooms and such...though it it a bit uncomfortable, they both feel very lucky. I hope to hear from Bjorn sometime today, Kel
Good to hear everyone made it through the storm. Up here we still have power outages. A lot of restaurants and grocery stores have lost a lot of business and inventory. It's funny how we got all the wind energy, and over in Indiana and Michigan got all the rain. What a mess! I was looking at before and after overlay pics of the Texas coast. A lot of things that were there, aren't now.
Thanks Everyone!...could not get any phone messages , cell tower down close to me until a day ago...we got power last night at 7 pm...office still had no power last night ,going there in an hour to check out situation... thanks for thinking of us...wer`e doing fine..wife and son have worked 2 and 3 days , their ofc`s got power...we had quite a bit of debris, trees ,limbs etc...no water for 2 days, but I had scorched the pool just before and it was the first thing I cleaned out so we could swim in lieu of showers...otherwise it been like a nice fall camping vacation...the cool weather REALLY helped...neighbors been very nice ,we`ve had an evening party every night at someones back yard, wine ,beer and scotch! Actually its been a real nice extra vacation...at least if youre a former military and boy scout! weather couldnt have been better, open doors and windows , cool weather...interestingly no mosquitos! but as we had dinner "out on the terrace" (read patio) last night power came on...and it wasnt more that 20 minutes later the mosquitos were back!! How did they know? lol but the first day after the hurricane, as I was cleaning up some with a borrowed chain saw, here comes Carl and Fleur and started to help with their chain saw...! later Carl and I drove over to Sara and Andy to check on them...they were fine...no power, but no oher problems...they got power back 2 days ago, I heard ,but as I drove by there yesterday ,they had lost it again...andy is sitting in the SUV outside with his laptop plugged in via some antenna and car power...
But I did hear some bad news via a PY guy in Alabama , he told me that Danny Reegan (in Galveston) lost his house, his truck, his trailer ,his 69 GTO, and about $100,000 worth of audio visual inventory,,,they did an evac to Austin, guess in his wifes car, with the 2 grand kids they are raising... I have not vereified yet...and its only 3rd hand info, so I hope alot of it is wrong...
Have not yet heard anything from or about Loretta and Lee Atkinson in Seabrook??
I`m going to be busy today ,going thru , probably 1000`s of emails etc... when I get power at the office I`ll download and post a few pics.... later....
oh , and I did have time 2 days ago, in the great weather ,to back the bird out and touch up some paint on the engine! had emailed Bill ( Bill Hirsch)last week to order some, and told him I would after Ike, but as I was rummaging thru the garage , I stumbled across a spray can I must have had for awhile, hoidden waaaay in the back...
only lingering problem is that I cannot get my elec garage door hooked up again...I had a hard time to get it to release...had to yank on the srcew bar (the top where the turning screw is) to get it to release, now it wont hook back on...but eventually , we`ll figure it out... doing lots of laundry now as I`m getting ready to head to he office!

Fearless glue has resurfaced! Carl kept me posted, showed me some pics of your place....could have been worse, good to hear your back...btw, David U heard from Lee, they made it thru with very little damage, he was surprised...time to get things back in order and enjoy the upcoming fall weather with a get together! Talk to you soon I hope, Kel
its great cruising weather actually...I`ve been driving the Volvo top down this week... glad to hear Lee made it out ok....
