I've got a 2004R with a 2400 stall lock up converter. Converter seems to lock and unlock when decelerating at about 30 mph causing a shuddering. Connections are good, with voltage to the feed and no voltage when stepping on the brake. Unplugging the wiring eliminates the lock up problem but trans heats up pretty quickly. I've got a deep aluminum pan, aluminum radiator with trans cooler & temp gauge. Trans temp gets up to 215 degrees in about 3 miles of driving. Engine water temp also gets up to about 215 in the same amount of time. I've got a 400 with KRE heads, flow cooler aluminum water pump. Flexalite Black Max 3000 cfm puller fan with shroud, radiator fill panels, 180 degree therm. and using water wetter. Both temps seem high. I'm afraid to drive too far for fear of overheating. Any ideas? Maybe a bad lock up solenoid?
Something is up with the overheating. I've unhooked torque convertor wiring before and they don't usually heat up. Was the convertor too tight against the crank when you installed the trans?
I did the original install and was careful about getting it engaged with the pump correctly. Someone broke into the place the car was stored and stole parts off the engine, so I ended up moving it to another shop where the owner wanted to pull the engine just to make sure no other damage was done to it. I'm wondering if they made sure it was engaged properly when it got reinstalled.
