This could have fallen under parts for sale but I have a question about it. I have a pontiac YJ 350 date code 1137. It came with the 68 bird I bought. I was told it was the original motor but who knows. Anyways is it worth anything? Or do I toss it. It only has one head #17 I tossed the other one. Its only a short block. thanks Joe
It's along the edge of the timing chain cover, on the the front block face, toward the passenger side. It's stamped vertically, and is best seen from below.
Q, I looked at the numbers and this is what I have. The vin on the bird is four digits longer than the one on the motor. Ill use xxxx for the extra #s. bird vin = xxxx78U110130 motor vin = 28U110130 What do you think. Keep the motor or junk it? Thanks for the info Joe
Hey big joe: If you want to hide the identy of your vin (I don't blame you if you do with all the high tech theft around) you need to hide the last 6 numbers. Everything before them is codes, easliy duplicated by theifs. The last 6, however, are what give your car its individgual identity.
I'm with Tom on that one. Always keep the numbers matching block. There is no substitute for it. The VIN code on the block has an extra "2" in it to signify that it is a Pontiac.
Thanks alot guys. I was going to toss the block away this weekend. Looks like ill grease the cylinders and store it in the shed. This is truely a great web site, Thanks agian Joe
