I just got a new OER windshield header molding set to replace the existing one on my 68 conv. I read in some old posts there are fit issues with some of the reproduction parts. Has anyone used the OER moldings that could comment on the fit? Will I need to pull the window trim chrome to remove the header molding, and/or do anything with the window seal? I had removed the header screws and visor mounts but the header molding wasn't budging easy. I didn't want to start prying things off so I stopped.
I tried to use aftermarket header moldings. I think they were OER brand from Classic Ind. They fit so bad I purchased a set of used ones with some rust insted of using them. Even with a BFH I could not get them to fit even close to acceptable. This is on my 69, a 68 may be better. My .02
I had my old ones replated, they did a sort of brushed nickel plate to closely match the satin finish...cost me if I recall about the same as repops and of course fit great as they were the originals...there was a few rust spots on them but the plating shop fisxed up the spots first for the price.

I would like to have my originals plated as they have some minor pitting / rust , any ideas about the best shop . I have mine off the car and i'm using some repops not glued down in the front so I can get them back off easy ! - The repops fit terribly by the way !
Think I am going to redo mine in bright chrome and change out the sun visor brackets also. Will be easier to upkeep and looks better anyway. I have no experience pulling these off, do they sit in front of or behind the actual windshield glass? What type of glue or sealant is used , and is mainly for weather seal or holding the trim in place?
I don't know what held it on, if anything, other than the screws, but it was a bugger to get off. Best sequence I don't know, as we tore the entire car down.

thewy are attached (originally)with some black mastic....t get them off use a hair dryer or such to heat up and slowly!! pry them off...they sit on top off everything else, just take the 5 screws out.

Neither, next to it. The moulding slips over the windshield frame with the short edge just turned down over the metal windshield frame. Then the windshield mouldings butt-up against it to cover the area where the sealant is.
