What's the proper distance between the carpeting and the brake pedal for a 68 power front disk brake car? My brake pedal is about 2 1/2 inches from the bottom of the pedal to the carpeting. Since the clutch pedal is more like 4 1/2 inches off the floor, it doesn’t look right.
Background: I just changed the car from a manual brake automatic to a power brake 4 speed car.
Not to highjack this thread but when we have our pedal adjusted between the recommened distance to floor (3 1/2" - 4"), the pedal arm dosen't even come close to contacting the brake switch. Even with the switch extended as far as it can go. Are we missing somethiing? A part perhaps?
Vikki, I checked the parts pages and it looks like we have everything but now I see in the CI catalog (pg 413) a stop lamp switch bracket for PB that we dont have. Seems like it's an extender for the switch. Bronze Bird.... I'll use your recommendation if this CI part is not something that would normally be installed. Thanks!
My set up is the same as the picture with the exception of the bracket or what ever it is that bolts in the hole above where the clevis bolts. Not sure what that is.
My first thought was that since I changed the car from a manual brake auto trans car to a power brake, manual trans car, that I got the wrong push rod that goes from the booster to the clevis. Are the brake pedal push rods differnt lengths for auto vs. manual trans?
Here is a picture of our's after we bought the stop light switch bracket. Fit's perfectly in the hole above the clevis hole and now the brake switch makes contact.
Thanks for posting the pic of the bracket. I've also done the change over and didn't know that bracket existed. I was able to make mine work without but now it's on the list of things to get in the next order.
Yes thanks for the picture. You identified a problem and a fix for something I was going to run into next. I'll order the bracket and fix this all at once.
So I checked on the length of the bracket pedal push rod and found that according to NPD, there are 10 common sizes ranging from 8 1/2 inches to 10 inches.
To make the rod assembly 10 inches if needed, they added a threaded rod and a coupler to extend the pushrod, so I went to the hardware store and bought the same things for a few bucks.
