Hey there everyone - I had new quarters put on my '67 bird, and when I took the chrome strips off of the quarters, I didn't mark them because I thought they were all the same. After further inspection, I noticed that the part numbers are all the same, except the last number, which half are a 1, and the other half are a 2. Does anyone know how they go back on the car? Also, are there any templates or pictures that show you exactly where to drill the 2 holes per piece? I certainly don't want to mess this up! Lastly, are there any places that reproduce these pieces? A couple of mine look a little rough, but I'd still use them if the repro's aren't as good. Thanks for any input you can give me on this. Winston
I got the repro louvres from Ames and they look great. They fit just as well as the originals. Mine is a 68, but I think they are the same. As far as placement - have fun. I drew a template on paper - marking the holes on the paper and then using a center punch to mark the sheet metal - one louvre at a time. This worked pretty well, but it is definitely a tedious job. I would highly advise drilling before paint. Wendi
Thanks Wendi for the reply. I'll definitely get the holes drilled before paint is applied. I have the Firebird service manual, but it doesn't really cover the body stuff. I sure would like to grab one of the body manuals to know I am drilling the holes in the proper location. The guy who put the new panels on threw the old ones away without taking note of the holes...that turned out to be a big oops! Glad to hear the repro's look good. Thanks again. Winston
If you PM me your mailing address, I will trace the hole layout off my '67 for you. I have the louvers off anyway, it shouldn't be a problem.
You should be able to line the tracings up and mark them on your car.
