Are small block Pontiac and small block Chevy motor mounts universal ? I have a 68 bird and want to put a SB Chevy down in it and want to make sure I get the correct mounts.
I think all blocks (not actually all, but..most of the ones talked about) are the same exterior size on pontiacs , unless you go waay back or talk of the inline 6....
the answer is no, you cant use a Pontiac motor mount for a small block chevy...or a big block chevy even though just about all Pontiac blocks would be considered big blocks...326,350,400,428,455 all same exterior size, = bigger than small block chevys
and w a small block chevy , you`ll get lots of space in front of the engine...
Besides, if I were you,I`d stick w a Pontiac engine... my 0.02
I have a 67 Grand Parisienne in my yard that came factory stock with a 327/t350 combo. The motor is out so it will be easy to check the difference between the frame mounts and motor mounts. You have to remember putting that sbc in your bird will devalue your car somewhat. It would be more fun and value added to go with a 455 if your looking for more power. Either way hang on to the 350 that came with the car originally. (If it's a 6 cylinder car definitely leave it as is and find a Camaro, Mustang or Mopar to thrash.) I'll post pics of the mounts later. About to paint more parts and will need something to do other then watch paint dry.
Here's the pics of the sbc motor mounts in the 67 pontiac and the 67 firebird motor mounts. You should be able to see the difference. Click on the photo to get the big picture. web page
I just dropped in a ZZ4 chevy 350 with a th350. I usedmotor mounts from a 67 camaro. would of gone Pontiac 400 had a hard time finding engine. Chevys a dime a dozen I also used Dougs headers and a camaro dual exhaust with x pipe from performance years. Good luck.
