That's really cool! Thats a nice pic. Looks like the Magnum has more lateral roll. Im sure you pulled away.
Lets just say it was the first time I didn't pull over for a cop.
He had way to much top end for me though.
That was my final check off ride by my instructor, I was allowed out solo after that, but it was cool running with head sets to talk. My best couple of runs were against a Viper and then a Vette-Ferrari duo. The Viper I ran in front of for awhile but gave him a point by off turn 7 which starts the long back stretch but I told my instructor I was going to make him work for it and didn't lift, I was winding out 3rd and shifting into 4th before he finally started pulling by me. We hooked up again a few more times after that. The Viper guy told me later in the pits how much he enjoyed running with me.
The Vette Ferrari duo I gave a point by on the back, they pulled away but being DE drivers they topped around 120 so I was able to pace them, when we topped the hill for a hard braking zone I actually out braked them and ran right up on the Ferrari's rear into turn 10a, my instructor said "Cool!" Of course we both knew with a more experienced driver in those cars it would have been different. I ran with the Vette a few more times, I was faster for the most part but he started top ending me as he got more track time. I could catch him in the twisties though.
Funniest thing was when I tried to pass the Vette off turn 5 my intructor said "stay on him, floor it, let's go, lets go..." I said "It is floored, it's a 40 year old Pontiac against a Z Vette" We both got a chuckle out of that. The Vette should have pointed me by and lifted slightly but my guess is pride kept him from doing that.
What a freakin blast though.

Absolutely no one could believe I was running a Pontiac under the hood. Everyone figured I'd go SBC, after seeing how much torque I could pull off a corner they got a first hand lesson on Pontiac torque. I had a bunch of tuner types on my butt through a section of corners, I was pissed about that so rather than point them by I floored it off turn 7 down the long backstretch and watched them dissapear in my mirror.
There was an instructor driving his race prepped beemer in my class showing my buddy Frank, who was having trouble learning, how to drive the track, they caught me in turn 12 but rather than them point by down the front stretch to turn one I floored it and pulled away, Frank told me later his instructor said; "that takes some power to pull away like that"
I wasn't the fasted car by any stretch and I need some new heads to get the RPM's up, but from 3200-5200 I could out pull about anyone off a corner.

Try to open the file with Windows Movie Maker (if you are running Vista), and chop the file down into parts. Other freeware video editing software should be able to break it down for you too. You can then post on youtube and copy and paste the links to here. Shouldn't take long. The longest part is waiting for the vids to upload to youtube. They allow a max of 10 minutes - not sure if there is also a size limit in MB.
Good luck - we would love to see it!
Learning as I go! Not stock, but doing as much as I can myself.
Did you get to run four or five sessions? How're the tires holding out? Hearing about it is almost the next best thing to being there. Keep up the good work. Sounds like a kick a$$ day.
The new tires and rims worked great. I'm probably going to put a 1/2" block on the rear spring perch to bring it down and cut 1/2+ coil off the front and start bringing the whole car down some. Got it weighed, 3200 without me and about 18 gallons in the cell. As expected it's a little nose heavy with the Pontiac engine, like to get the KRE heads, a glass hood and I'll make the bumper assembly out of aluminum at some point, (need Claus's expertise) that should get me closer to 3000.
I ran three sessions Saturday, I got banished during quiet time Sunday morning (it's a tad loud ) so I lost that session, but I had two Sunday afternoon and they gave me a pass for another group to make up my lost session. But it was right after my 2nd regular session and a Mazda smacked the wall right at the end of it and caused a red flag, after waiting on track a few minutes and finally getting back to my pit she was running a little hot and the red flag cost me my cool down time so I passed on the last session. So I had a well deserved beer, talked with some friends and loaded up for the trip home. Other than being cold (40's for the high) it was a great weekend.
It was crowded, Road Atlanta always is and this was the season ending weekend, so instead of 4 sets per day it was only 3.

So far I haven't been able to figure out my video uplink, never done one before. But here's one from I'm guessing the last session Sunday, based on the Sun and lack of cars. At least you can see the track. This was one a very fast Volvo.
S60Rs are nice fast cars....nice track... my friend Peggen http://www.btccpages.com/driv/anderssonpeggen.php in Sweden (he owns a S60R by the way) who used to race Volvos , Beemers and Porches, sent me a neat vid from Nurnburg ring where some guy sets a new record in an M car..prof driver...but I cant find that vid now....really feels good to watch...my co computer got it erased , its was too old, but i`ll email him to see if he can send it again...its a really nice 'trip' around nurnburg ring...lol
Wow! Cool vid. That Volvo seems to be a pretty fast ride. How long is that straight where you cross under that walkover? It looks to be about 3/4 mi. Looks like you could just about top out and it's nice that the first turn or two at the other end aren't too tight. Looks like a fun track to run. Makes me want to go out and tear into my engine but it's just too cold tonight.
Hey, no problems with oil pressure in the turns and during braking? What kind of pan are you running? Canton?
Off turn 7 to 10A probably is about 3/4 mile, the track is a tad over 2.5
No issues with oil... yet. Running a Canton 7 qt with trap doors, full windage tray and large remote filter so 8 qts total. Oil temp gets up to around 240, water stays at 170 most times until the cool down lap or sitting to long, then it spikes but mainly due to air pockets I think. I need a better water pump.

One more biggie and I'll leave Geoff's band width alone.
I have more coming next week from another track Photographer that I think he got me solo on Sunday, if they're any good I'll send some to Geoff, if he thinks they're Calender worthy he's welcome to use them.

ho428, I'm envious! lol I would love to drive on a loop rather than a drag track. That or drive like Ken Block! Nice car, great pics, and a good example of Pontiac power!

Gordon, I finally got that video from Nurnburgring, my friend Peggen who had it, has been in Venezuela a couple of weeks ,just back...here it is... I really enjoy "riding" shotgun here! Joachim knows how to drive! enjoy!
