I assume the under the hood was sprayed then the fire wall tag was placed. My tag is in great shape and not crazy about removing the tag to clean it up. It is currently is painted and want to restore it to the orginal condition. You guys have any ideas how I can remove the paint and make it look like it was just placed there without removing. I don't think they were intented to be painted. have any ideas
Try masking the area around the tag and use a spray or brush on paint stripper. You can buy this at any paint supply or hardware store. Should clean it up nicely. Careful not to get it on your paint.
Are you wanting to remove the black paint from the tag? I am pretty sure that the tag is suppose to be black as is the firewall. I have the articles from HPP on Jim Mattison's 67 Ram Air bird that show a black tag. Can anyone else confirm?
I assumed that the tag was oversprayed and you wanted to get it cleaned up and repainted. Yes it should be black. Correct me if I'm wrong guys but I belive the factory used about 25% flattener when painting the firewall to get a slightly duller then semigloss finish.
