I received an advertisement from YearOne displaying the SSBC disc brake conversion kit...........costs about $800. Anyone out there install one or can anyone recommend a good conversion kit........think I want to have my front brakes converted this winter. Thanks for any input. John
Your decision will depend in part on whether you plan to keep your existing wheels and the dimensions of those wheels. Many of the kits require 15" rims and even then many will not guarantee that the wheels will clear the calipers. If the interference is very slight, minor grinding might take care of it.
Ask the prospective vendors first.
The kit from Inline Tube fits 14 x 6 Rally IIs.

I used SSBC slotted rotors with stock calipers and they fit my 14x7 Ralley II's. I have two different sets of 14x7 Ralley II's with different codes and both sets fit.
I did not buy a kit to convert my brakes. I'm sure I didn't save any money in the long run. The used parts I bought were used as cores, and I kept finding things that I didn't have.
If SSBC says your kit will fit under 14" wheels buy it. If your wheels don't fit, I'll sell you my spares.
Although Inline Tube says their kit will fit 14" Rally II's it does not. I used their kit and had to get all new rims and tires. I emailed them telling them they may want to revise their website but they never did. I also took my Rally II's and tried them on another FGF members car with stock brakes and they did fit. The car stops well and the kit was pretty good but I was very disappointed that they advertise the kit fitting 14" Rally's when in fact it doesn't.
I installed the Inline Tube kit recently on a '68 former drum brake car that had been previously converted with four piston calipers. I installed the full kit from Inline Tube and it fit perfectly under the original 14 x 6 Rally IIs. Kit included master, booster, delay valve, spindles, rotors and calipers.

I installed Master Power Brakes big 11-inch (police/taxi) rear drum kit on my car. It was pretty straightforward.
Better rear brakes, didn't need to changeout the master cylinder, OEM emergency brake system works.

I installed a front disc conversion kit with power booster and new master cyl from CPU car parts. Works great, conversion was easy, just needed a few special brake line fittings to get it all together.
If you are interested, I have a spare set of new stock height spindles, caliper adapters and backing plates that I could sell you. They fit a 68, but I think they should work for a 69 too. Someone here will know for sure. Not sure if they will fit the 14" rims as mentioned earlier. After those parts, all you would need are rotors (with bearings, seals, dust caps, and spindle nuts), calipers, brake lines, master cylinder, proportioning valve and a power brake booster. I heard that parts for the Camaro from your local shop will work.
Good luck, let me know if you are interested in these parts.
Learning as I go! Not stock, but doing as much as I can myself.
OK..........Thanks for the info.......one more thing.......I know I have 14 inch rims, but I don't know if they are 14X6 or another size.........If I let you guys know the tire I have on the rims can someone let me know my rim dimension. Thanks
I just watched an episode of one of the many car shows on T.V. (the one with the host that has the giant handlebar mustache), and they showed an "at the wheel" kit for disc brake conversion that only costs $450. You don't get the booster or master cylinder with that, but if you're like me, you already got one installed with your drums that has a m/c that is set up to run discs, too. Just thought I'd share.
