I ordered some stuff at Classic Industries for the ol' Bird, just before the 15% discount expired. Some front end rebuild material, motor and trans mounts, etc. total sums up to a firm US$710,-...
Then they offer me two shipping options:
UPS Express Saver $425.04
DHL $332.80
That is half of what I'm paying for the stuff I'm buying!! Okay, it DOES contain seat-foam and a new sway-bar, which are probably shipped oversize, but MAN, that is a lot of money!
Call another supplier like ames.or have them shipped to somebody here and have them forward them to you via the usps which is alot cheaper.bjorn has done that for some people and i have also
Classic is way overpriced on shipping. It has been a well talked over problem on one of the other forums I belong to. You could try fbodywarehouse.com their pricing includes shipping. Shoot them an e-mail with what your looking for and they will give you a total. I have been using them for over a year now. There more famaliar with the 2nd gens but he's working on getting to know the 1st gen parts better.
or try tom landess; tlandess@aol.com....he orders from Classic and ships however you want, cheap! In fact he gets good discounts from CI for bulk orders and passes some of that on! I use him for CI orders 100% now...as their shipping policies and costs are LUDICROUS.

Classic doesnt want to go to the post office, thats why they ue DHL and UPS, both ccharge brokerage fees for customs, thats part of thier shipping charge...you got to use a private person that can send it via USPS... I am currently waiting on the third part of stuff that Hansi has bought over here...three different sources..then I re pack ,and take to post office...then he pays me via paypal...simple, easy...
I will never buy from classic, I got hammered on shipping and will never buy again... They shipped two sets of floor mats to me for half the price( no sale) of a 6x6 inch box, watch out on sale times they try to recover it some way...

I just rececntly shipped some parts to the south coast of the UK. The box was 60"x8"x29". Weight was 70lbs. It exceeded the PO size limit so I had to ship UPS. $400 for shipping and another $50 for ins on $2K. I have no idea what kind of tax or fees he had to pay(if any) to get it out of customs hands. Just by way of FYI.
Classics costs are high even for UPS or Fedex. and going thru the shipping quotes takes days sometimes...great looking catalogue, but....crappy attitude...

there is a better way to ship large items overseas.you can go to the port and have them put on a ship alot cheaper.i shipped a convertable top,2 inner fenders,2 fenders and about 200 lbs of other stuff shipped to south africa for 300.00.ocean freight is the cheapest way but it is slow
