Hey, my names Corey. Been lurkin around the site for a while but just joined a few days ago. Im currently and have been restoring a 67 firebird for the last 2 years. Some of you might know me from a few other sites. 2 years ago I bought my bird after eying it for 10 years. In 1997 I was driving down an old gravel road and seen it sitting back in the corner of this field so I stopped in and inquired about it. I was told it wasnt for sale. 10 years later same road and same car. Except now its up by the front of the field. Had a tarp over the front window. Appearently the elm tree it sat under before decided to drop a limb through the windshield. So I pulled into the driveway and knocked on the door. This time there was a man who answered. After asking him a few questions about the car. He was the original owner and heres the deal. he bought the car in 67 before being sent off the korea. While he was gone his mother drove the car and rear ended some one. So he put a camaro fender oon the passenger side. Then in 1974 it developed a transmission leak so he parked it in the field. Where it sat ever since. He did go out and change the oil and start the car once a year up until a few years ago. To my surprise the 326 in it still runs. However after sitting in the field and under that tree for so many years the grass growing up around it its pretty rusted out.He took my offer of $1000 which I knew was high for a car in that condition. Ive been trying to get it fixed up for 2 years now. Ive replaced the quarters and tailpanel as well as got a new front clip. The stack of body parts in my garage is finally starting to dwindle down. All I have left to do is the floor pans and passenger rocker (which Im waiting to have delivered) Then I will be ready to put it on a dollie. Some upgrades Im planning are power windows, shaved handles and a stroked 400. But I will be keeping the original 326 on hand. Thanks for reading and I must say after reading all the questions and answers I have to say thanks for the site. Im outside of omaha. In a lttle town called leshara. That door was a pain. I got it all welded back together and sent it out to be dipped for the rust. They had it for 3 months and didnt know where it went.
Welcome Corey. Great work. Do you do body work professionally or just as a hobby? Thanks for bringing a bird back to life. When your done with it, I think you should go show it to the previous owner.
