Not if you knew what you were doing. I changed a few spark plugs in my '75 Monza with the 327 4 barrel that replaced the 262cid dud. reasonably quick but no match for my Firebird. I sold that Monza to my former girlfriend of the time and her next boyfriend tried to challenge me with it! Felt pretty good smokin' him with my Firebird!
Uh, Sheri, you'd better check that vehicle weight again. My H-body Cosworth Vega with the all aluminum 4 banger weighs in at 2700 lbs, which is less than an iron block V-8 H-body weighs. I think adding at least 1000 lbs more to your number would get you close! Note: Vikki, both cars mentioned so far are keepers, as is my truck. I'm keeping the fun ones, just getting rid of the extra daily drivers, sorry!

Yeah your right about the weight. For some reason I had 1800 lbs in my head but it is closer to 2700lbs. I think I was thinking of the Nissan I had or I could be totally wrong on both. I think the spark plug problem was on the later H-bodies but I'm not sure. I really don't remember much how that engine was setup. No the Monza wasn't as quick as the Firebirds. Actually, I don't remember racing any Pontiacs, just Chevy Camaros and Novas. Yeah there was some fast cars that could beat it but I had a lot of fun with the ones that didn't.

The steering column and headers made it difficult to remove the plugs. Many people unbolted the engine mount and jacked the engine up to get to the plugs.

My first car was a 72 Gran Torino Sport with a 351C. Got rear ended two weeks after I got it (van hit me doing 50 mph) and it had a cracked frame. So I sold it off.
I owed a lot of cars, but that one had a nice power range.
The first car I owned I bought from a salvage yard I worked at during one summer back when I was 15 it was a 72 ventura sprint with non running 400 engine ,candy green with white stripe for 250 bucks.By age 16 I had mcgyvered a 327 in it via chains and had nothing but problems. Have you ever seen the passenger side valvecover rest on the master cylinder? Chains didnt work so well back in 1982 but the 327 with dbl hump heads and solid lifter cam was cool.
Some great First cars... seems to be a theme of First gens for first cars... How kool is that?
My first was a 67 Firebird Sprint-6, 3-Speed. Bought it in 1980 for $850 Second was a 68 Firebird, 400 car with a 421 in it and a TH400. Bought it in 1981 for $150 Third was a 68 GTO 400 4-Speed, bought it in 82 for $600 Fourth was a 73 Ventura 350/TH350 Bought it in 82 for $750

Paid $600 for the car, $200 for the top, $150 tires and $1000 for a complete paint. Not my first car, but I had a 72 Impala convertible(Impaler), 350, same color combo, white and dark green. Bought it off an old guy in 87, had sat in his garage for 5 years had only 64,000 miles on it. Even had the mint tonneau (boot) cover. Bought it for $1,800, drove it for another 60,000 miles (adding only fresh paint) and sold it for $3800. That car sure flew on the highway, top down...
hah, Craig...found an old pic of the 72 "Impaler" last nite while cleaning up my office...
not sure why the boot was not on in the pic....must have been a hasty spring roll down...
