My gearbox is completly shot, yesterday I took out the bird and it felt more like a 42' Boston Whaler.
Can anyone make a reccomendation on a gearbox? With the hoildays coming I dont want to go for broke but I'd like one with a firm feel and nice ratio.
thanks in advance

Do a search on the forum, there are many threads, one from less than 4-5 months ago dealing with this in detail. Short answer, there are a few you can choose, I believe the best solution coming from a 78 or 9 IROC....the number is on the other thread,

WS6 box! IROC is Chev and is not worthy!
Use a pre-'78 box so you don't have to change to metric hoses (or is that just Canadian TAs?)

Look at Pozzi racing.com He has a detailed list of what's needed for the Iroc box upgrade. I did the upgrade and am glad I did. The metric conversion was a pain, but I found some adapters at Napa auto parts and that solved the problem.

I got the metric adapter kit from Lee, comes with the hose adapters and the rag joint. Pricey but beats running all over hells half acre trying to piece it together

I did a 92 IROC box and like the feel. I concur with Brian. Go to Pozzi's site and it's not that hard. Just a couple of adapters.

I bought my quick ratio right over the counter from Napa. Bought the one for a 69 Firebird, went right in bing bang boom. Bought a new curved pitman arm from Camaro Specialties in East Aurora, NY for $85 along with a brand new rag joint. All went right in, everything lined up and was an easy project overall...

I swapped all my expensive Firebird steering linkage to the easier to find and less expensive Camaro parts from Moog. The center link, pitman arm, tie rod ends, etc. are all available new from Moog for a 69 Camaro.

WOW
Threw the Cardone box, Moog pitman, and Lee coupler kit in yesterday. I couldnt get out of the car, what a difference. Less a wheel alignment my front end is perfect.
If anyone is contemplating this project, DO IT!

Will the pitman arm swap right over as it stands? I just replaced it with a new one last year...hate to have to buy another!

If anyone is contemplating this project, DO IT! Cool! Just to be clear what application did you buy and why the box with metric threads, is the pre '78 standard thread not available?
