Our winter snow melted quickly and now there is flooding across my state. Ice jams have caused the Missouri River to flood parts of my hometown of Bismarck. I have family and friends close to the river. We just had a blizzard on top of this. My home in Dickinson is safe from flooding although other parts of town could have problems. All parts of the state have had issues of flooding. I have never seen it like this before. In '97, the Red River near Fargo and Grand Forks did flood but I don't recall so many towns getting flooded from different creeks and rivers across the state. The last several years have been mild but this year is a bad one.
My that sleet and water looks c.o.l.d!....glad everything's OK on your end. I hear the Red River Valley just to the north in Winterpeg is getting nasty as well....
The flooding is worse than I thought. The flooding went inland at least a mile on the south side of town. My mom's place is only about two blocks away from where it has flooded. They evacuated one of the jails. They used explosives to break up the ice jam and will be doing it again. Some people I know have been evacuated from their homes. The last time the south side flooded was in '52 before they built the dam.

Been watch'n it on the news. Looks real bad. I hate flooding. Not as bad, but my house is in a low lay'n area with a creek go'n through the corner of the back yard. Have 3 sump pumps at the ready. Already had water 3 tims this year. Last time they ran for 5 days round the clock.
Thanks guys for your support. I've been upset and saddened by this ordeal. I love my hometown of Bismarck. It's a nice clean, charming town. I hate to see it in a mess and the people that have to go through this. My grandpa built his house by himself and my uncle lives in it now. I would not want to see it flooded. My cousin lives close to them. My dad's shop was only a few feet of being flooded. Thank goodness the water has gone down after they used the explosives to break up the ice jam. My family should be ok but they are not completely out of danger. Ice jams can still form and we have tons of snow to melt again.
I have family near the Red River by Fargo. They are still in danger of flooding and I hope it turns out well for them. Some small towns have been flooded that I have spent time in. Just about every town near a creek or river has had flooding issues in the state.
As tempting as it is to be in FL working outside in the winter, I could never leave my state. I would miss it too much.
Ponchoshop, I hope things get better for you. Flooding really stinks.
