Hello, I'm new to the forum but a long time bird owner(32yrs). My car is a 67 w/326 and I think it's time for a new water pump. The shaft on my old pump turns much harder that I think it should. I read in this forum about checking the clearance between the impeller and the divider plate but it applied to the newer pump. Would this also apply to the 8 bolt pump? Would putting a flowkooler pump on not require this mod as it has an impeller with the plate welded on?
My second question concerns the clutch return spring bracket on the V8 cars. Ames shows a diagram in their catalog that shows the bracket being mounted to the inside of the frame rail, but I really didn't see any tapped holes there to mount it. Anybody know how this mounts to the frame?
I'm also in the process of putting a TKO600 trans in the car. Has anyone put one in an early bird? Thanks for all the help Steve
The clutch spring bracket goes just aft and below the steering box. There's a brake line holddown clamp there and the bracket goes against the frame with the brake line hold down on top.
A few have done the TKO's. Kiesler (and others) have a kit that comes with everything you need - drive shaft, cross member, yoke, shifter in the right place, speedo gear, etc. That seems to be the way to go.
Thanks for the info on the bracket. I see the brake line clamp. My car started life as an automatic so I wasn't sure where it went.
I already have my trans kit and was just wondering how everything fit. They say it's a bolt in kit but you never know for sure until you start installing it.I bought mine from american driveline in Tennesee.
