Just looking for some recommendations from those that have purchased 69 Firebird Wheel Opening Moldings. How is the quality of the reproduction units? Are the ones available from all of the different parts houses the same moldings or are they different? Pricing seems to vary wildly and therefore makes me wonder. Thanks for the help.
We just put repo's on our 68 and they installed perfectly. We did have to drill new holes (originals were covered). Think we paid about $70 from CI for the set. We also installed new rocker covers and they fit perfect as well. They are a thinner metal but look great. Couldnt see spending hundreds for NOS.
I had 3 originals on mine when I bought the car , one missing ,since owner had replaced a fender... I priced both origs and re pops...bought a re pop, thought they would look the same...if you mix ,you can certainly tell , the re pops are only about 1/4" to 1/2" wide into the the wheel well.... I lived with that for awhile , painted the rest black so it wouldnt show red inside the molding (car is red)...but after I hit a couple of bumps while turning the molding bent out...the tire would grab the raw edge of the molding when it hit the fender...(mine is lowered some)...then spent the money for a real GM version , wider , covers the entire visible area and bends up into the wheel well, so now if I at a bump hit that molding it doesnt grab and bends...in my mind the originals are worth it...
Im installed a re pop rocker molding , you cannot tell the difference on those, BUT the edge that tucks in is smaller, but doesnt show..
Ugghh! Now I'm gonna have to paint that area that isnt covered. Thought that's the way it was supposed to be. We never had original moldings so couldnt compare. You're right Bjorn, the repo's only cover a portion and I can see how the wheel could grab the edge.
Thanks for the advise guys. I will have to re-check my originals to see how bad they are given the mixed reviews on the repops. I know for a fact I have at least one original that needs replaced, the driver front is all banged up and beyond repair.
Thanks again and if you have an extra drvr front molding for a 69, send me a message.
I had an extra pass side for 69 , but sold it to Vikki, maybe a year ago... I bought mine from Ricks First Gen Camaro, they carried the GM origs...and it seems like the pass side was more often in wrecks , so there were more drivers side avaiable...
I found on my 69 that the rear repo stuff was OK. The front on the other hand was made foe a Camaro not a Firebird. I wound up buying used trim for the front.

hmmmm, I thought the wheel moldings are the same for 69 Camaro and Firebird...I cant see any difference from what I bought and what was on my car?
