For leather and vinyl care in my volvo and firebird I have been using a british product called Auto Glym with no problems. There are other compatable products out there as well. I have heard about the Amour All problem as well and stay away from the stuff for the most part for this use.
I bought a console for my 1970 GTO in 1982. The guy I bought it from coated it with mineral oil and swore it was the best thing for vinyl. To this day, that console is as soft as the day it was made, and the dash is all cracked to heck. I wish I had believed the guy and started doing my dash with mineral oil. The console on the GTO has the same pattern and finish as the dash of my 69 Firebird.
You can get mineral oil at the drug store. It's in the laxatives section.
Interesting. I've used Armor-All for many years on all my vehicles and love the results. I've always attributed the lack of any dash or other cracking to the regular use of it.
I did replace the '68 Bird's door panels but that was due to cracking prior to my discovery of Armor-All.
From my experience, and others' I have seen, if you stop using Amor-All, the cracks will appear much faster, and be far more vicious. It's almost like the vinyl gets addicted to it.
