OK, I'm just about there too, rebuilt the 350, installed edelbrock cam, timing gear, intake, and carb, scraped the points for electronic ignition. primed the oil pump, just need to add gas and water and see what happens. hopefully the timing is close. the new electronic ign. does'nt have much room to set. big dist. coil in top. will hopfully be able to start it tomorrow... also have to modify a throttle/ passing gear cable bracket.. junked the powerglide for a T350..
Hmmmm,,,Been cranking engine over, have spark and fuel, according to timing light when cranking over timing seems close. but not getting engine to fire.. maybe check valves again.. not backfiring or anything.... any ideas??
Three simple mistakes often occur here, so please pardon the assumption.
1) The distributor rotates COUNTER clockwise. Make sure you have the timing order going in the right direction.
2) The timing may be off by 180 degrees. Find TDC on #1 to verify that you are correctly timed. If you are 180 degrees out, the timing light will still make it look like you are at #1 TDC when you are at TDC for #6.
OK, its alive!!! brought back from 12 yrs.. had the timing off 180 degrees.. smoked up the garage, fired right up and sounded pretty good./ time to go back and play.. warn up and maybe re-adjust the valves to make sure I got them right.. thanksssss
