Hi, I'm new to the forum. I just bought my first firebird, a 68. My fiance has 2 79 TA's he is fixing up before we get the 68 up and running. I bought it down in New Mexico. I am having trouble getting a title because it changed hands and the vin on the title was incorrect, but it looks like it might work out. It does not have a motor, but it was in good shape. The 2nd owner told me it was a 350 2bbl with Verdoro green paint and gold interior. It had a push button radio and 3 speed on the floor. I've purchased a 350 HO block and a 400 block to put in her with #16 heads. I'm not sure which way to go. I'm not sure if I should restore her or just make her the way I want to. I'll post some pictures of her later. I'm cuious about the windows because they all have the bird etched in them and the Pontiac logo on the back one. I'm new to firebirds, but I want to learn. Let me know what you all think.

We'd all like to see the pictures too!
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Well here she is . . . not much now, but someday she will be. I have to get new fenders, find a 400 hood, and all the engine parts. It's a project, but I'll get there.

There is a lot of mud in them. They need replaced. My fiance was trying to help me out and make it look cooler on the trailer. He slapped on a set of Cragar SST's.

Hoy hoy Ladybird, you're in the right place for first gen info. If you posted pics, they're not showing up. Tell your fiance to put a hold on one of those 2nd gen T/A's, so you can get your project up and running.
Welcome Ladybird, glad to see another woman come aboard. It looks like you have a nice project car to start with. I agree with Tom about having you honey finish one of his projects and then work on yours second. Or do both at the same time. That way you guys will both be able happy while he works on his second project.

I would love to do this on my own, but I don't have a clue how to build a car. My dad has his vettes (54,84,88) and Impala (67). Jason , my fiance, has his TA's and his dad has a 67 mustang, a 63&63 Impala, and now a 68 GTO. I've always been the gofer (go for this, go for that). I watch, but I am going to learn everything. You're right Vikki, Why should the boys have all the fun! I buy the parts, he puts it together with my help. I don't think I will win the get my 68 done first argument. We went to Michigan to get a parts car that I found for him and it turned out to be a 79 Y84 Special Edition. So it turned into his 2nd restoration. It is going back to stock. Thank you so much.

A lot of people on this forum have used this site and its members as a resource and gone ahead and did what they didn't know. Don't let it scare you. Cars are a combination of very simple machines, there is nothing mysterious or tricky there. Sometimes it helps to have physical assistance, and sometimes it helps to have expert assistance, but just about everything can be a DIY project.

Welcome aboard, and Vicky is right, you will get lots of direction here, and I'm sure from your BF. Plus it will be 5 x more satisfying having done a lot of it yourself....
