I got my exhaust done Friday and when I pulled it in the trailer I noticed something weird. First let me start out by telling you I put in a new harness w/internal regulator for alternator during my restoration. The issue I'm having is the when key is in accessory position the generator light is on and very dim but when the car is started the light is bright? I checked to see if alternator was working and it was? Does anyone have any ideas regarding this? I have no clue??
Like Vikki says, if you have a one wire alternator installed you need an adapter harness if you still have the sensor plug in the loop. It's the 2 wire plug at the back of the old alternator that sends the signal to the GEN light to light up and go off.
If it's an aftermarket harness made for a one wire alternator then there "should" be instructions regarding this. If it's a stock harness and the plug is just "hanging out" you need to get the adapter for it.
I personally like the externally regulated on my 68', up at the top of the rad support keeps it nice and cool. Had the original regulator until about 6 months ago or so when she gave up!
Don't mean to hijack but I am also having a problem with my Gen light. It is always on however very dim. Sometimes it goes out. I checked the voltage at the battery when the engine is running. I am getting about 13.2 volts or so. Anyone have this issue?
