I just removed the subframe and all components from my 69 firebird and was preparing it to re-paint. I noticed the front side hole for the lower control arm bolt on one side has went from round to an oval shape. I am thinking that will create play in that control arm. My question is can/should this be repaired or should I be looking for a new subframe? Second question as to the best coating for the subframe. In reading the forums many suggest POR15 and others just chassis paint. Is it just personal preference?
1) I also had a wallowed out front hole for a lower control arm on the replacement junkyard subframe I found. While the main frame was perfect, the back 4 mounting tabs were also rotted out. The welder that I had repair the frame welded a thick washer over the wallowed hole and it's as good as new.
2) I went a step farther and had my subframe sandblasted and powdercoated. It cost a whole $150.

Thanks I was thinking of taking to a welder to put a plate on but the washer will look much better. Any issues you can think of when I have this car complete when I go for an safety inspection? I mentioned the plate modification to the mechanic at the school I work at and he mentioned that modifying the frame may lead to issues with the inspection mechanic?
If it's welded on even halfway decent then painted, once the bushings are installed it will hardly even be visible. That's not a frame modification, it's a restoration. You are not changing the design or loading.

Thanks for the info, had a guy weld a washer on both sides as the other side was not out of round but was showing signs, was blasted and coated today and came out great.
