Doesn't sound too good with splitting grill, electrical problem, and added weights on brakes.

Maybe we should be glad they didn't come out with a Trans Am based off this Camaro.

There are teething problems in most new designs.

There were some pretty annoying issues with the 2005 Mustang that the 1st year owners were not happy about. The biggies were fuel tanks that would not completely fill (tank design changed) and the early Shaker 500 and 1000 radio units would not read MP3 recorded disks (head units redesigned).

Although that "tire weights on the brake calipers" is pretty tacky and would tick me off.

My father told me NEVER buy the 1st year of any new model. Yet I did it once (very 1st Toyota MR2 in '85) and it worked out OK.

I just realized my father violated the rule himself. He had 2 '64 Chevelle's.

Of course, that might have been when he formulated the rule!

The biggest improvement from '67 to '68 was the rear suspension. Much better on the '68-9 models. If your '67 has both traction bars you're better off with that set up. I lke '68 the best.

I`ve never bought what we in Sweden used to call the "baby model" (first year) of any car....its good to let them work out the small issues...

Craig (68tpls400) since you have the traction bars, your 67 will be better than than the day it left the showroom! So the rule wont apply.

Most issues were dealt with before the first Camaro was officially released to a buyer. They held onto quite a few before releasing.

The weights? No issue to me.

The car puking after 40 miles, battery cable rubbing on exhaust (if remember correctly)

Grille..mods made and car hit 155 mph per article.

I have a 2SS coming in 2 weeks. Will be the last 425 HP plus production Camaro if I understood the information released.

Am I worried? Not at all. I'll take my chances before they mandate a 300 HP Camaro.

If a TSB is released on the vehicle and is out of warranty, the repair is covered.

Most people are aware of first year issues. I have a few back up options for alternate transportation.

If anyone wants me to test if their SS is defective, please let me know.

True, there are usually a few issues in most 1st year models. I was also told too not to buy the first year or at least until you know what the first year issues are. I only bought a first year model once. It was reliable. The only issue was some type of electrical problem in the circuit where the idiot lights would blink off and on. I took it to a mechanic and they found nothing wrong mechanically. Just decided to disconnect the light so it wouldn't be annoying since it wasn't helping me anyway. I always make sure to check fluids often and listen to the car to tell me if something is wrong.

13,289 SS Camaros have been sold. That includes the R6P early orders prior to March 15th.

There were 12k sold when I ordered mine Feb 5th. Out of those, 79% were SS V8's.

You can call it damage control on GM's part.

The first 3000 or so were on hold for quality control checks initially, then during that time, more were being built at a rate of 175-250 a day. The hold was released about 3 weeks ago and the first private delivery was about two weeks ago.

There are well more than 300 SS's on the street. The Google map above shows VIN's in the high 7000's and the last update on that was a month ago as GM restricted the information to the guy who built the VIN tracker.

Todays paper showing that car now advertised by all the local dealers....

We have a huge Chevy dealer in a brand new facility at the south end of town. I will be on vacation all next week so I may go check one of these out in person.

There were 2 news items today that would make me pretty wary of getting either a new or recent GM or Chrysler product:

1) GM continues to be unable to control their losses of capital. They again have blown right past their predicted losses for a quarter. I personally think bankruptcy has become their only option.

2) There was an interesting article about how car insurance rates have to be increased a lot for owners of car lines that are discontinued/bankrupt. It’s because as the number of dealerships are reduced, repair parts become more difficult to find and damaged cars are totaled at lower damage levels because their resale values have plummeted.

It will void the warranty!
