I am as familiar with how these work as I am with the Scandinavian languages. It's all gobbledygook with too many J's.

Bottom line is that I've got the new electrical all wired with new gauges, and no response from the fuel tank. Should I just yank it out and replace the whole unit or could there be other demons in the system?

usually two problems with the sending unit...bad ground or bad unit...

Nah, I just redid the wiring...jjj...so I know the wiring's good. I don't think the ground...jjj...is bad either. I'm going to...jj...double check it tomorrow, but I'm convinced that I'm going to spend the $80 on a new unit...jjj.

(The extra J's are for our nordic friends.)

Do you have a VOM (volt ohm meter)? Are you checking continuity? Because you have new wiring, your certainty should still be checked. I made that mistake when I replaced my fuel tank. I found the repair I had made to the ground wire had come undone. Problem was located with a VOM. I pulled it back out and soldered it. No problems after that.

I created a second special direct-to-firewall ground for the circuitboard since I was having problems with the lights on it, so I know that's not it. I'll still double check my grounding when it comes back from the shop.
