I am considering the "Mity Mounts" listed in Ames catalog. Putting in 462 so I am a little worried about all that torque on those two bolts. Is it well spent $100 or not? any opinions on reusing old ones vs new stock ones vs "mity mounts" ? thanks
well, i guess no one is a fan of the "mity mounts". I got a couple of replies to this on the Firebird L email. They felt the stock ones were fine. I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems at all when re-using their stock motor mounts when rebuilding/reinstalling motors in our cars? thanks.
I asked this question a couple of months ago and didn't get any replies either. So I went with re-using my old ones.
So far they have held up fine with 2 miles on my rebuilt engine!

I am going with Mitty Mounts when I pull my motor back out to fix an oil pan leak soon. I did not like how I had to fight to get the motor and tranny mounts lined up correctly with the aftermarket mounts from Ames and I don't like I have very little clearance under the oil pan.

I used the available mounts from a local Advanced Auto Parts store. They have been working OK since install last fall. Mighty mounts are a viable option. I actually bought a solid steel mount for the driver's side but, didn't use it.

I installed new ones two years ago. Just this past weekend I opened up my hood and noticed the engine is WAY out of whack! Took a look from under and bingo, driver's side is completely busted. I called NAPA and they had them in stock! Sooo, they will go in tomorrow...
when you say they had them in stock, do you mean replacement stock mounts or the mity mounts? with the stock ones failing so soon, are you thinking of something else? with the last few comments, now I am thinking I may just go for the better ones. Good input folks. thanks for the responses.
I'm using "stock" ones from Ames. No problems yet that I can see. Has anyone with headers noticed that when you shift into reverse the header hits the steering column (maybe not the right word...I'm no mechanic)? It doesn't look like it's "smacking" it hard or anything, but it looks like there's a bit of a dent in the header like it is hitting there. My car does make quite a loud noise when shifting into drive and reverse, but I think I've got that narrowed down to rearend issues. That will probably need to be a whole new topic...
Yes, the steering gear will hit the header tube, due to the siamese center exhaust ports. You can grind a little off the box or pull the header and take a big impact socket and a hammer and well....you know the rest.
