I have about 1000 miles on the engine since installing a new cam. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side. Could it be a simple as readjusting the valves to fix the problem?
It could be as simple as that. Or it could be alot of things from a bad lifter to a rocker stud pulling out(if they are pressed in) to several other things. I've had rocker nuts back off to the point that the rocker came all the way off the pushrod. Sounded like the motor blew up but was a simple fix especially with stock valve train.
Yes, it could be that simple. I had a nagging tick on the passenger side that I just recently got corrected. It turned out to be a bad poly-lock somehow.
I agree with Brian. I think 68 Firebird400's comment requires you to spit three times and light a candle or something...

Glad to find that it not the cam or the valve that's ticking. I looked into the ticking sound a little further and it's coming from the distributor. There's a little blue thingy inside(small body HEI) that I removed when I installed an adjustable vacuum advance. I failed to put it back in properly. My distributor guy new exactly what it was when I called him.
I was freaking out over you guys and your horror stories with wiping out cams.
