on my 68' 400 conv.,closed my hood fits fine. front corners match, and there is a even gap on all three sides. but as i raise the hood, at about a quarter of the way up,it moves back and contacts the cowing right in the center.i also have to push down on the top corners of the hood , to get them to sit flush with the fenders and from just eye-balling other pics my hood doesn't seem to come up as far as others. could someone measure the distance from the bumper to the point of their hood opened all the way? are there any numbers on the hinges that would tell me if they are correct? or does the gap at the top of the hood and cowing need to be a little large the the rest? tim
It sounds like your hinges are worn, especially when you mention having to push down on the corners to get it flush. Have you tried adjusting the hood so the rear sits as low as possible? I just measured, it's 4' exactly.
as said above , sounds like worn hinges...or adjustment...most likely worn though..
adjust them by loosen the bolts to the fender "slightly"...then open the hood all the way, have someone hold it open all the way , tighten down the bolts...usually its the rear bolts that need the adjusting....maybe start with those first.
to see if they are worn... have someone open the hood and close it (not all thay closed) ,while you look closely at the hinges, where the pivot occurs ,see if they move or slide... I had over a 1/4" slide in mine before I replaced it...
I concur, try removing the springs and then close the hood if it sits flush with no problems then your hinges are sprung. The holes the rivet goe through have been elongated and it will be nearly impossible to get things to work and align properly.
I had a similar problem, replaced the hinges and everything is golden now.
