I went to replace the headlights on my 67 yesterday and found that the male connectors on the lamps are too short; what to do? Is the best thing to just remove some of the plastic cup on the wire harness that holds the female connectors? Also, I had this problem before the change out: The outboard driver's side lamp will work when on low, but when I switch to high beam only the inboard light comes on on that side. Both lights come on on the passenger side when highs are on. It is the same after switching to new Sylvania lights.
I found this once as well. I had to return the one brand of bulbs and exchange for anotehr and all was well. As for the non functioning light, has to be a ground issue, possibly the high beam switch itself. It gets it's ground when the switch is screwed to the floor...
I just solved this problem. After replacing dimmer switch, found one of the wires going to the high bean was cut. Soldered, shrink-wrapped and covered with electric tap and I was good to go.
I ended up trimming off about 1/4" of plastic from the connector cups and that did the trick as far as getting a solid connection. I still have to figure out why the low beam on the driver's side cuts out with high beams on. Sounds like I need to check grounds?
