I know there has been some discussion on here about how the quarter window rollers break and need replaced or adjusted, but never could find any advice on how to "REPLACE" the roller themselves, so I figured that one out. On the opposite side of the roller is a nut, it doesn't look like a nut, just looks like a washer with 2 oval holes in it, and what appears to be a rivit in the middle, well it is actually a nut that is threaded on the roller. They sell a spanner wrench in Classic industries, or if your lucky like me, and have a machine shop at your work you can have your machinist make one. Just put the spanner wrench into the holes and spin it off. I had a heck of a time figuring this one out, i read somewhere that it was a rivit and needed to be drilled out, glad I didn't do that. So it is a pretty easy task if one knows "HOW TO" do it. Also, the 1/4 windows are completely adjustable, forward, backward, and sideways. There are adjusting screws on all 3 of the "anchor" bolts, there is a slot cut into the end of the anchor bolt for a screwdriver to fit into, that will adjust the window in toward the interior, or out toward the outside of the car. And the anchor bolts have slots that will tilt the window, forward or back. You need to have the top up and secured to make the proper adjustments. You need to remove the rear seat, and the quarter interior panels, to get to these adjusters. (on a convertable anyway) I hope this helps anyone who may be struggling with this, and once again i would like to request a "HOW TO" section on the site. What do you think Geoff.
In the nine years I've had my Bird and never a problem with windows/regulators etc. Now in the past few months, ALL of my windows have issues! The passenger 1/4 window is the worst. It falls down in on an angle towards the door and you have to reach down in the opening and dig it out and up with your finger while cranking it up. Sounds like your info here will help fix that! Thanks!
Sounds like you have a broken roller Joe. The plastic parts don't last too much longer on these old cars.
The replacement wheels are under five bucks each. Just a PITA to swap out.

68tpls400, yes sir, got it fixed last night.and they are a PITA, you know I should have done both sides at the same time, since I had all the windows out, but heck, I'll get to learn it all over again in a year or two. And 68 firebird400, you definetly have a broken roller, mine was doing the same thing, and I kept loosing the piece of wood that was jammed in there to hold it up:)I'll try to post pics of the spanner wrench my friend built, I thinnk classic wants like $25.00, but it's probably worth it.
68 Firebird 400 i am having that exact same problem. When you fiqure out the problem please send me some pics and what all you had to do. B/c i have no clue even hoe to acces the rollers, i guess you would have to take off the quater inner panle?
im only 15 but doing all the work on my bird, cant wait to get her on the road!
Prob won't tackle that too soon, but when I do I will post pics. Funny thing is, now what we live in FL I leave all the windows down pretty much 24/7/365. Put them up yesterday on the way home from the beach as we got caught in a down pour...
