My turn signals work, but not properly. They blink but very faintly and the four ways dont work at all. I've asked around and have gotten many suggestions. I am a brand new owner of my '68 convertible Bird (only about two weeks.... told ya I'm brand new!). Any and all suggestions will be appreciated and tried. I am contemplating rewiring the whole car. The current wire job looks like a hack did it.
could be a bad ground, but i'd start with a flaser unit, should be under the dash to the right of the steering wheel in a mounting clip if it hasn't been "relocated"
Def a ground issue and or flasher as stated above. You may want to twist each of the four sockets in the tail light housings as this is where they get their ground. Twist them back and forth a couple of times to ensure a good ground.
Watch the lamps to see if one blinks out of phase. If one of the bulbs is a 2157 instead of an 1157, or if one socket is not properly grounded, you will see what you are seeing.
You can use jumper wires with clips to test ground at each socket to isolate the problem.

another thing about my issue.... the hazard knob has to be pulled out for the turn signals to work. seeing as the hazards dont work at all, i dont know whethere the knob should be pushed in or out. both turn signals are faintly working. any and all suggestions will be appreciated and tested.
ive narrowed it down further. tuns out the flasher for the hazards was missing. i put a brand new one in the fuze box and for the turn signals. the hazards work perfectly, but still not the turn signals. the flasher is not nearly as loud for the turn signals as it is for the hazards. please help.
Check your grounds as mentioned above. Then let us know. If you see a faint light and the flasher is new, then it has to be a ground problem, whether that ground problem is at the socket, turn signal switch, or somewhere else in between.
If your wires are hacked, then that could be the problem too. As you mentioned, you may want to look into re-wiring if you have the means to do it. Wiring poses a lot of problems loke this if it's not in good shape.
To adrdess this issue, start from the sockets and work your way back to the switch. You can sse the wiring diagrams at the following site to trace the wires.
what i found, is the wire develops a resistance in the soldered junctions at the tail lights. this causes the light to not blink. turn the signal on and trace it with a light check the junctions at the rear it is connections that were factory solder (spelling is wrong) is. it usually gets corrosion and causes it not to work. the best tool is use the light starting at the fuse box.
