I have a chance to buy a standard bore 400 block, crank, rods, 2 bolt main caps and choice of #670 or #62 heads. The block has been cleaned & magnifluxed and the heads need rebuilding.

What should I expect to pay for this setup?

I'd say in the $250-400 range would be a decent price. Maybe a little more depending on condition of the heads and such. I'd go for the 62s if you get a choice.

I'd be surprised if you can get them for less than $600 for the set. Although the market is not quite as hot as a couple of years ago, head cores are still stable in price for the popular numbers. #62 undamaged cores go for $250-300 typically and are great heads for the lower compression stock replacement pistons.

I just paid $350.00 for a set of 62 heads. I would plan a couple hundred for the block and parts.
