My power top sounds like I just barely got it to close the last time I put it up. I am now afraid to drop the top. What could this be? Fluid? if so, where? possible motor dying? Thanks
Could be the fluid level, you may have a leak. You need to pull the rear seat to gain access to the hydraulic motor, visually check the lines to see if there is excess air in them. There is a plug on the side of the motor where the fluid goes. Pull the plug, the fluid should be just below the plug opening and no more if it is low use a hand transfer pump(the easiest i've found) to fill the reservoir to the bottom of the opening. While the top is up, disconnect the cylinders from the top(1 bolt either side) and cycle the top up and down several times to bleed the excess air from the system while the plug is out. Also check for leaks while you are there. If you have to replace the motor or cylinders use this same procedure to fill and bleed the system.
Thanks. I'm guessing the fluid since it gradually was slower over time. Is there any trick to getting the seat out? I have never removed it. Do I just need hydraulic fluid or is there a special fluid? Disconnecting the cylinder - is there only 1 bolt? Thanks for the help!
The bottom cushion comes out first, you have to push in at the bottom and lift to release from the clips, then two bolts hold in the bottom of the back rest.
Trans fluid unless otherwise stated on the pump.
1 bolt either side, and the top has to be up to access them.
Should only be one bolt per side at the top of the cylider ram. Top should be up to access them. Then pull the plug on the motor and start cycling the cylinder rams up and down, may take as many as a dozen times. Don't forget to check for leaks at the cylinders as well.
