I have a 1968 Firebird with a 350/350 2bbl car combo i think? my car is a column shift car it has 3-speed what other tranny could it be??? i hear alot of people say that they have a 350 2bbl car like mine but have a 2-speed tranny i.e power glide so that is why i am wondering if my car came that way factory?? Is this possible ? and my last question is when i hear people refer to transmissions they use the term BOP what is that?? will A 350 trans from a chevy bolt right in?? oh yeah and i remember doing a burn out and both tires were painting the floor it has a posi could it be possible that a 2bbl 350/350 265 hp car have a posi??
thanks guys appreciate all the help,
joe

If the shift indicator on the steering column has a "2" in it, you have a TH350. If it has a "S" in it, it's aTH400. (I think, but don't hold me to that!)

BOP stands for Buick/Olds/Pontiac.

A chevy TH350 will NOT bolt straight in.

Posi was available for any engine/carb/trans/rear gear combination.

According to my book, Chev and Buick use L2 and L1 on their shift quadrant, and Pontiac and Olds use S (for Super, not second) and L (Low).

Yes, a TH350 has a pan that is almost square with one corner cut off.

If you really want to know how your car came from the factory get the build sheet from PHS. $35 will save you a lot of guessing. There could have been some changes made in the 36 years.

I didn't think you could get a TH350 in 1968, only a TH400? I also believe all 350 engines with autos in 1968 with column shift came with the 2 speed auto only. TH400's required floor shift.

You really need to look at the tranny pan to see what you have. Here is a link to the different shapes:

And for the Pontiac 2 speed (ST-300 not Powerglide) that came in our Firebirds:

Hope this helps,
