I am looking at a 68 pontiac 400 block casting number 9790071, but it has a YE engine code; does anyone know what engine this is (HP rating, head number- it has 4X heads on it, and I want to try to get the original heads); I do not see that engine code (YE) for the 68 pontiac 400. The guy told me that it came out of a 68 Bonneville.
Awesome website, I looked online for quite a while for engine codes, and none of them had that info. The guy also said that it had a TH400 trans, which 'jives' with the info. fron the website.
That is the EXACT engine I have in my car, same casting # and same two letter code (YE) and I am also running #62 heads! If you are looking for a serious power house with some serious torque go with this engine, you will not be dissappointed!
When my car was dynoed it pulled 405rwhp and that was not hitting top end of each gear due to a lack of fuel at the top of each gear. I am in the process of ordering a higher volume fuel pump which should solve that issue. Then I will dyno the car again and I am hoping for 425rwhp
Keep in mind I am .030 over and also running a high end roller cam & lifters as well. It's a Crane roller, RamAir III grind, other than that stock intake, Q-jet & long branch manifolds...
Do you have a TH400 tranny? Also wondering if the Edelbrock intake from my 326 would fit, I also have a Edelbrock 1405 carb (600 cfm). I also have headers, I think that they will also fit. Are your heads D-port or round?
I have a Muncie M21(converted to an M22). The intake you have shouhld fit as far as I know and I also ran an Edelbrock 1405 for sometime before I found the correct Q-jet. I have #62 D-port heads w/ Pontiac long branch manifolds...
