I'm at our local cruise night last night. We call it the "Block Party". 3-4 blocks of cars, bars, and restaurants.
So, I'm hanging out with my best buddy and future GTO owner, Ernie, when I notice his jaw drop. He says to me, "is that fat f'r really sitting on your car?!". I turned around, and sure as $hit there is some pluckhead sitting on my rear fender, talking to 4 or 5 of his friends.
I walk up to him and just looked at him. He had no clue that there was a problem, or that sitting on someone else's classic car was offensive. Fortunately for all concerned, he immediately stood up and apologized... I was so pissed.
GEEZ!
I'm a hobbyist. Not a professional. Don't be hatin'!
i don't think that i would (or could) have just looked. i remember the time some guy jumped over the door in my 68 vert, (my bail was 500 bucks). hmmmmm maybe you the right thing.
Thats why I rather drive mine than park it to show. Unless you stand guard over it every second some idiot will do something. Last year at local show a freind of mine had his car parked at a show and shine and some guy wearing a zip up hoodie was leaning over his fender looking at the motor. When the owner saw him he asked him to back up some. After the kid had left he walked around his car to find a scratch in his new paint on the fender from the guys zipper.
Friend of mine had a new Harley Fat Boy he was driving to work. Co-worker walked in after lunch commenting on how heavy it felt. Friend walked out and sure enough he had been sitting on it since the kickstand wasn't put down properly and was dangerously close to letting the bike drop. I mean really, what are you thinking not asking permission? Like it'd be okay if you came out during lunch and I was sitting in your sports car?
I love to go to car shws and cruises and my kids enjoy going with me. ut when they do go with me, I'm just a nervous wreck. I don't get the full enjoyment out of it. Constantly on the watch for what the kids are doing. Thank God my kids seem to understand. We have a rule, they can touch my car all they want as long as they promise not to touch anything else.
My daughter has been going to car shows and cruises with me since she was little. Give each of your kids, if over age 2, a cheap digital camera. They will take all kind of pictures of what they like, and keep some distance because of the camera's focal range. Those photos will give you a whole new perspective on shows and cruises (kids' eye view) and some of the shots will be absolutely incredible.
I'm posting the shots my daughter took today at the Gratiot Cruise in a different thread.
