I tried to find some info in the FAQ's about switching my 3.08 to a 3.55 or 3.73. Will both/either of these require a new carrier? I am sure the 3.73 will but I have found both yes/no answers regarding the 3.55.
For my information - would the 3.73 ring & pinion be too big for the thm 400 with a 400 motor? (IE rev to high at 60mph?)
Been along time since i've messed with 10 bolts, but think 3.08(possibly 3.23) is the cut off between low and mid gears. 3.55 and 3.73 use a different case for sure.
Darn it Dave!!! You should have swung by my place. I will give you a 3:08 ring gear and pinion. I have had it sitting in my shop for 6 years with no intention to use it. Any 3 series gears will fit as long as its for the 8.2 rear end. I hate these rear ends with a passion and have upgraded them with the 8.5s Way better gear selection and stronger.
Well, maybe I have an excuse to run down one day soon....!
I want to retain the cruisability of the lower gearing but save the strain on the clutch the 2.56's are giving me in traffic. I spent some good $ rebuilding this RE, so may as well keep it and change out the gears....as I don't put much strain on it anyway save for the odd burn out...
Never done a gear change out before mind you....but game to try...

ey Dave, Im just a little over 1 1/2 hours from White Rock. I would make Surrey just over 2 hours. Like 2 hours 5 minutes without border traffic. If you don't want them, I got an email from someone else in Canada that would like them.
