Interested in the response here, mine does not fit nice between the fenders and the rubber assembly in the front. I have always been reluctant to try and fix it for fear of making it worse.
the way i do it is have the frame aligned with the body first. cross measure the core support with the body to make sure it is square. set the doors and aligned then with the body first; then do the fenders with the doors. next set the hood in without hindges and latch to see if you are close. adjust the fender gaps with the hood tighten then check the door to fender fit and adjust it if necessary.
i have the front of my bird off also, just as HO4SPDTOGO , i will align from my doors , to my fenders and hood. then the front nose you need. i would leave my grilles , and bumper off till last. install as a whole piece with the two bolts on each side that fit thru the frame. i have the mounting curved brackets on the front nose( that connects to the frame .) then attache the front nose to the frame. it will be no quick bolt on job. i will have to make adjustments along the way. it will take time and adjustments. and more adjustments.
yes it takes alot of time! I'm assuming you have all the fenders, hood etc lined up.
I started with the main bumper support bracket lined up to the hood center. But basically the carriage bolts on the bumper mounting brackets are slotted to move the WHOLE assembly left and right. The bolts above the headlights move each headlight frame independently left or right. The bolts below the headlight frames move the chrome bumper left or right, and the sub frame mounting bolts move the whole bumper in and out AND up and down at the same time.
You really end up going around tweaking this, then going back and moving here and there, it just takes time. It can be very frustrating! I thought mine was all lined up, only to go out the next day and low and behold it was crooked...LOL
Good luck! Just be patient! It will eventually fit correctly. To me nothing looks worse than poor alignment of the nose on a bird.
Oh and one more thing.lol Once you have the headlight brackets lined up, you may need to center the headlights in the frames using the 4 mounting bolts on the back side of the headlight bucket holders.
let me know if you have more questions, I'm no pro ,I just spent a lot of time on mine. BTW i'm still not satisfied!
