I noticed I do not have a hose connected to my distributor vacuum advance.
I am guessing it should connect to some sort of solenoid, as there are also a couple of wires with connectors on them in that area that are connected to nothing.
How important is this vacuum advance? Was it just for emission control? I can not find a place on the carb for a hose to attach.
I guess I have just been running with only centrifugal advance.
The vacuum advance helps with gas mileage during idle & light throttle cruise. There should be 2 vacuum lines at the front of the carb. 1 will be ported vacuum & the other will be constant vacuum. Try either one and see which one runs best. There's a long debate over which one is best.
There is one vac line that runs to the tranny, and another , smaller one, that runs to the air cleaner. There are no other ports on the front of the carb.
I do not think the car has the stock Rochester 4bbl on it.
When I ordered a carb rebuild kit, the number I had did not match what came on the engine in 69.
Should I "T" off of one of the lines? If so, which one?
My guess would be the tranny vac is the ported, and the air cleaner line is the constant.
Start the car and pull a vac line off the carb. If you have vac at idle then you have a line with manifold vac. If you have no vac at idle then you have a line with ported vac. Generally if the line is connected above the base plate it's ported, in or below is manifold vac.
