I'm assuming this one. You basically screw down the bottom half and the air filter half has a wire clip thing that goes over it to hold it on. See the 2 lines that run across the top and then see where they go on the bottom.
I had one of those and absolutely hated it...the filter element is really porous and I only recommend it for off road (track) use. To use this filter on the street as a daily driver is looking for trouble.

That is true, they aren't the greatest air filter out there. They don't seal very well along the bottom of the air filter where it meets the pan, if you've seen one on an engine while someone hits the gas you'll see it get sucked in along the bottom leaving gaps to suck in whatever is around un-filtered. You would be better off with an over sized paper filter setup or an oiled cotton style filter setup like a K&N.
i had a round version back in the late 70s , hated it clogged up quick. rinsed it out with water full of dirt. a lot of the trash went on in to my carb. i guess thats one reason i swaped carbs back then.
Tried'm all over the years. Found the cheap 14x3(or 4" if you have room)paper elements work best for clean air and low restriction. Nothing else has made my car go faster in the 1/4 mile Plus thier only about $3.
A friend of mine used to work for Holley said they tested them, and are really restrictive. Also covered the vents on the Holley if that's what your running. Either way, throw it in the garbage.
Don't feel bad FACEFIRST, I bought one of those too many years ago. It looked very cool, but the sponge filter is too porous. I now use it to cover engine carbs on the stand in the gargage.
